The Romantic Story Behind Qixi Festival
Qixi Festival, also known as Chinese Valentine's Day, has its roots in a beautiful and timeless love story between Niulang (The Cowherd) and Zhinu (The Weaver Girl).
The Legend of Niulang and Zhinu
Long ago, Zhinu, a beautiful fairy and the daughter of the Jade Emperor, was famous for weaving clouds and heavenly garments. She fell in love with Niulang, a kind-hearted cowherd. However, their love was forbidden by the Emperor. As a result, the couple was separated by the Milky Way and only allowed to reunite once a year on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, when a bridge of magpies would form across the galaxy, allowing them to meet.
The Meaning of Qixi Festival
Qixi Festival symbolizes loyalty, devotion, and the strength of love. It is a day for lovers to celebrate their connection, share gifts, and express heartfelt emotions—just like the eternal bond between Niulang and Zhinu.
